IU helps meet need for substitute teachers
Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit 16 (CSIU) is helping to meet a need for substitute teachers through its Guest Teacher program. The program is a collaboration between the IU and Bloomsburg University that allows junior and senior education majors at Bloomsburg with 60 credits or more to teach in area schools. Although the Guest Teacher program isn’t new, the IU brought the required training course to Bloomsburg in November, facilitating students’ completion of the program. The guest teachers will serve in the IU’s 17 local districts. According to an article in the Press Enterprise, the college students will be qualified to teach up to 20 days per school year.
The IU also hosts a similar program for residents that hold a bachelor’s degree and would like to become qualified to substitute teach in local districts.
