Immersion program gives students an early start on language learning

Avon Grove School District (AGSD) will offer a new bilingual learning opportunity for students starting in kindergarten. In the 2022-23 school year, AGSD will launch a Language Immersion Program in Spanish and English. In each immersion class, half of the students will be native English speakers and half will be native Spanish speakers, with half of the day’s instruction staking place in one language and half in the other language each day. The goal is to prepare students for a global world by creating a unified community of learners through the integration of languages and cultures.

Families were asked to express their interest in the program and students from that pool were be selected to participate via a lottery system. At the start of each school year, two new classes of incoming kindergarteners will be added to the program. A long-term commitment is requested from families, as the program continues through grade 12 for those chosen to participate.
