Iditarod Trail runner speaks at McMurray
Peters Township School District | Posted on

Mr. Freeman shares a map to detail his path across Alaska.
Peters Township resident Rick Freeman visited with students in Mrs. Fox-O’Kelly’s 4th grade class to talk about his experience running the Iditarod Trail in Alaska. Yes, running – pulling a sled with 35 pounds of his gear, with no dogs to help. Freeman is an ultra runner and he shared details about his experience eating moose, his gear to get through temperatures of 46 degrees below zero, the people he met along the way, and the character traits of grit, determination and perseverance that made it possible. Students in the class wrote him notes of encouragement that were received at a mail drop along the trail.
