Honoring our veterans at PVSD

On the mornings of Friday, November 8 and Monday November 11, our buildings buzzed with excitement in honor of Veterans Day. The students were filled with anticipation of the celebrations to welcome our esteemed guests – veterans and active duty military family members of students within our buildings.

Some of the invited guests spoke about their experiences, their dedication to our country and the importance of service. Their words resonated with the students, giving them a deeper appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy. The guests of middle school students were treated to songs of patriotism performed by our MS band and choir.

At Pleasant Valley Elementary, a special procession took place. The veterans and their student family members walked through the halls as patriotic music filled the air. Students lined the halls and waved American flags, showing their thanks to our veterans. It was a moving tribute that left a lasting impression on everyone present.

Throughout the week of the celebration, our students engaged in various activities to learn why we honor veterans. They wrote heartfelt letters and created artwork that expressed their gratitude. At the middle school, students raised money to support Valor House which provides shelter and care for displaced veterans.

As the celebration drew to a close, our veterans and active duty military guests departed with smiles on their faces, knowing they had been warmly thanked and appreciated by the students they had served to protect. The event left our students with a greater understanding of the importance of service and the freedoms we hold dear.
