Gift represents district-community partnership

The Warrior Run Education Foundation (WREF) made a special effort to commend every Warrior Run School District employee for their efforts during the very challenging time of the pandemic. The Foundation extended a WR Community “thank-you” to 214 educators and staff with a discount card to local restaurants.

The cards represent a partnership between local businesses and the district that benefit both. In an article in the Standard Journal, WREF President Jean Hormell said, “Looking back at this year of struggle caused by the pandemic, we hoped to do something special to recognize the commendable service of the Warrior Run staff. We also recognized that the past year has been difficult for all small businesses, particularly restaurants. We decided to see if we could create a win-win situation with restaurants joining with us to honor the service of the school staff. At the same time we would raise up our local restaurants as community partners to encourage increase in business for them.”

Warrior Run Superintendent Dr. Alan Hack also expressed appreciation for all of the businesses that participated and for the ongoing work of the foundation. “We are in exciting times for the Warrior Run education community,” Hack said in the article. “We have begun construction of our new elementary school and this is a great way to finish a unique but difficult year for all our staff. Thanks to the foundation and the local restaurants who approved the coupons. Their community support is greatly appreciated.”

The following local restaurants participated in the sign of appreciation: Ciro’s Ristorante Italiano, D Family Restaurants, New Fern Park, OIP in Allenwood, The Teek, Turbotville Public House, and Watson Inn.
