Garden Spot FFA team advances to nationals

According to a post on the Eastern Lancaster County School District’s official Facebook page, members of the Garden Spot High School FFA Poultry Evaluation Team recently earned first place in Pennsylvania and will advance to compete at the National FFA Convention this fall.

The state-championship team includes Natalie Smithson, Madilynn Krick, Madeline Detavernier, Mariah Sensenig, Elizabeth Sauder, Mia Sensenig and Loretta Black. Their success reflects the knowledge, preparation and dedication required to excel in agricultural education and career-focused student competitions.

Several team members also received top individual honors. Natalie Smithson placed first individually, Madilynn Krick earned second place and Madeline Detavernier finished third, highlighting the exceptional talent within the program.

The achievement showcases the strength of agricultural education opportunities available to students in the Eastern Lancaster County School District. Through FFA participation, students develop technical expertise, leadership skills and real-world experiences that prepare them for future success in agriculture and related fields.

The district also recognized coach Bob Lauffer for his dedication and support of the team. A longtime educator in the Garden Spot agricultural program, Lauffer’s mentorship has helped generations of students grow as leaders and learners.

As the team prepares to represent Pennsylvania on the national stage, their accomplishment serves as a source of pride for the school district and community while demonstrating the outstanding opportunities available in Pennsylvania’s public schools.
