Fox Chapel Area High School is participating in Rachel’s Challenge in February. The purpose of the Challenge, a program in honor of the first victim of the Columbine High School shooting, is to stimulate academic achievement and social-emotional learning by focusing on the connection between students, faculty and staff.

Using the remarkable story of Rachel Scott, Rachel’s Challenge promotes safer, more connected school communities and is designed to address school safety and suicide prevention by providing activities, lessons, and age-appropriate content around the mission of reducing bullying, self-harm, and youth violence.

A Rachel’s Challenge staff member shared Rachel’s story with the entire community through an interactive program on February 5 in the evening. Additionally, all Fox Chapel Area High School Students had the opportunity to hear the presentation during the school day.

Rachel’s story unlocks the desire for change. Then, its programs come alongside the existing efforts of the school to sustain a culture where harassment, violence, and self-harm are reduced; where teachers are free to teach, and students are empowered to learn.

Rachel’s Challenge has delivered life-changing programs to more than 30 million students, educators, and community members since 2001. The nonprofit organization’s programs work in conjunction with a school’s existing measures to create a culture less susceptible to harassment, isolation, and violence.

Rachel’s Challenge continues to work hard to turn the ideals of kindness and compassion into actionable strategies that help promote a safe and productive learning environment.
