FFA members compete in regional career development events
On March 25, members of the Oley Valley Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter got a chance to participate in the Spring Career Development Events (CDEs) in person at the Lebanon County Fairgrounds. Last year students participated in Spring CDEs online. CDEs help students explore different careers in the agricultural field. In the beginning of the year, students participated in fall CDEs. Spring CDEs offer a different variety of events like agronomy, floriculture, vet tech, food science and technology, livestock judging, wildlife, poultry evaluation, and meats evaluation. When students got to the fairgrounds, each person competed individually. For each event there was a hands-on section, such as identifying and evaluating something, and then a written test to demonstrate the participant’s knowledge on the subject. Thirty FFA members participated, and many excelled in their events.
