Members of the MAHS FFA recently attended the 2024 Legislative Conference.

Four members of the Meyersdale Area High School FFA Chapter attended the 2024 State FFA Legislative Leadership Conference (SLLC), held in Harrisburg, on March 24 through 26. Bailey Knotts, Carrie Engle, Jimmy Kretchman and Aidan Mosholder traveled with chapter advisor Doreen Jamison for three days of workshops, meetings and experiences with Pennsylvania legislative leaders and representatives of the agriculture sector.

Throughout the conference, MAHS members learned about the legislative process and current issues involving agriculture. The conference included workshops on leadership, parliamentary procedures and etiquette. The final event of the event was a legislative breakfast with senators and representatives, including State Representative Carl Walker Metzgar, and a tour of the capitol building.

Bailey Knotts, Vice-President, said the event was educational and fun! This is her second year attending, and she said she is still amazed by what members learn, see and do.

“During this conference we did a few workshops. We had an advocacy fair which I personally enjoyed. We learned some parliamentary procedures and dinner etiquette. We got to visit the Capitol building and sit in our representative’s office, Carl Walker Metzgar,” she said.
