Family Math Night: A resounding success

“Scavenging” for clues!

On the evening of Tuesday, November 19, Pleasant Valley Intermediate School (PVI) opened its doors to an enthusiastic crowd of learners for its highly anticipated Family Math Night. The event was designed by Math Specialist Amanda Menghini and a team of math teachers to foster a love for mathematics and promote family engagement within the school community. As a Title I initiative, the event aimed to provide accessible and enriching educational experiences for all students.

The highlight of the evening was an exciting Family Math Scavenger Hunt. Our PVI families embarked on a mathematical adventure, utilizing their problem-solving skills and knowledge to navigate a series of challenging clues. The scavenger hunt cleverly integrated mathematical concepts into the puzzles, encouraging students and their families to collaborate and think critically. The hidden message, revealed at the culmination of the hunt, added an element of surprise and accomplishment.

To further extend the learning experience, each student received a take-home math toolkit. These kits, filled with essential tools such as rulers, measuring tapes, protractors and small clocks, empowered students to continue exploring mathematical concepts in a hands-on and engaging way. Additionally, accompanying worksheets provided opportunities for practice and reinforcement, ensuring that the learning continued beyond the event itself.

By creating a fun and supportive environment, the event effectively demonstrated that mathematics can be both enjoyable and rewarding. The positive feedback from students, families and staff alike is a testament to the event’s impact and its potential to inspire a lifelong love of learning.
