“Digging deeper” and getting into character
Sixth-grade students at Pleasant Valley Middle School were in for a surprise when their teachers stepped out of their usual roles and into the shoes of characters from the beloved novel Holes by Louis Sachar. This immersive experience was designed to celebrate the completion of the novel and foster a deeper appreciation for its themes and characters.
An unforgettable learning experience was created to spark a passion for literature and encourage students to think critically about the story’s messages. By embodying the characters, the teachers hoped to make the story come alive in a way that traditional classroom instruction simply couldn’t.
Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to interact with the characters, ask questions and participate in a variety of engaging activities. The Holes Character Day was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on both students and teachers. It not only enhanced student engagement and comprehension but also created a deeper appreciation for the power of storytelling.
Pleasant Valley Middle School plans to continue incorporating creative and immersive experiences into its curriculum, ensuring that learning remains an exciting and memorable adventure for all students.
