CSIU hosts annual regional in-service day
The Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit (CSIU) hosted its annual regional in-service day on Monday, October 14, at Susquehanna University, bringing together nearly 800 educators from 11 school districts. The event, titled “Kids Deserve It: Empowering Educators, Inspiring Innovators,” featured a robust lineup of keynotes and breakout sessions designed to inspire and equip educators with the tools they need to foster student success.
Participating districts included Benton Area, Berwick Area, Bloomsburg Area, Central Columbia, Lewisburg Area, Midd-West, Mifflinburg Area, Millville Area, Selinsgrove Area, Shikellamy and Southern Columbia Area, along with CSIU educators.
Two inspiring keynote speakers headlined the event. Adam Welcome delivered the opening address, “Kids Deserve It,” offering practical, actionable strategies to spark meaningful change within classrooms and schools. Following Welcome’s presentation, Matt Mervis presented, “Where We Are and What’s Next for AI in Education,” focusing on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence in shaping the future of education.
In addition to the keynotes, participants had the opportunity to attend 38 breakout sessions covering a diverse range of topics. Led by local educators, regional experts and out-of-state presenters, the sessions explored cutting-edge topics such as artificial intelligence, literacy, data analysis, social-emotional wellness, classroom management and more. Specific areas of focus included health and physical education, mathematics, special education, history, the arts, STEM, and gifted education.
Beyond the event at Susquehanna University, additional professional development opportunities were available throughout the region, including the District 8 PMEA Professional Development Day hosted at CSIU central office, a Family and Consumer Science conference hosted by the Southern Columbia Area School District, and a Business Education event, hosted by and held at Susquehanna University.
“This day is really special because it’s one of the only times throughout the year that educators from different roles across our region can come together to learn from one another. This event provided something for everyone, and it was amazing to see it all come together.,” said Dr. Anthony Serafini, CSIU Director of Professional Development.
