Community organization provides free books to classroom
The Pennsylvania State Grange, an agricultural and rural advocacy organization, has introduced a statewide service project, Books for a Buck, to support literacy for students in local schools. Children’s book publisher, Scholastic, offers a $1 Book of the Month, which can be purchased for each student in a class.
Tuscarora Grange #774 in East Waterford has partnered with Mrs. Lynette Miller’s first grade class at Juniata Elementary School in Mifflintown to provide free books for each student. As we all know, literacy is the foundation for almost every academic skill, and far too many children do not have access to books in their homes.
Grange member and Juniata High School paraprofessional Corinne Hostetler was privileged to meet the class and present the books, saying that first graders are big fans of Mrs. McNosh (and classroom visitors!).
