Community event aims to increase engagement
Greensburg Salem School District prepared students to return to school with some fun activities for the whole community. According to an article in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, the district’s new slogan is “Children First — Engagement Always,” and building a strong community is a key part of fostering that engagement.
“Education Always means we will strive to create learning environments in the classroom, events and extracurricular activities that allow children to be agents and owners of their learning,” with “dedicated stakeholders focused on rebuilding our connections within our schools and community,” Superintendent Ken Bissell explained, in the article.
Attendees were invited to wear school colors to the event, which included a cornhole tournament sponsored by the school Mini-THON committee. Other activities included a dunk tank, karaoke, games, a selfie station, crafts, face painting and more. A performance by the high school marching band and choir was a highlight. Community resource organizations and school groups were also invited to provide information to the public.
