The Windber Area School District (WASD) and the local community came together to raise more than $1,000 in support of local veterans, presenting the funds during a recent Friday night football game as part of the district’s Salute to Heroes event.

The donation was presented to the veterans in a special ceremony during halftime. WASD Board President Dr. David Decewicz, along with board members Mr. Mark Portante, Dr. Melissa Klingenber and Mrs. Amy Rummel, participated in the presentation. The funds raised will be used to enhance the Windber Veterans Memorial Park, a beloved landmark in the community.

“This event was a great example of what our community can achieve when we come together to support those who have sacrificed so much,” said Dr. Decewicz. “The overwhelming response from our students, staff and residents made this night truly special.”

The Salute to Heroes event is an annual tradition for WASD, providing an opportunity for the district and the town to honor veterans while raising money for local causes. This year’s contribution will help ensure that the Windber Veterans Memorial Park continues to serve as a lasting tribute to those who have served the country.

The Windber Area School District thanks everyone who contributed to making the event a success and extends its deepest appreciation to the veterans who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms.
