The Giving Tree, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching children the merits of helping others, has presented Colonial School District with the #MontcoServes Community Service Award.

#MontcoServes is a community-funded program that provides a $500 service project to all public elementary and middle schools in the county. Colonial School District is the seventh school district in the county to have every school complete a service project.

In all, 535 Colonial students completed 595 projects benefiting area homeless shelters and food pantries, Meals on Wheels, the Boys & Girls Club and children in need.

Congratulations to:

  • Colonial Elementary School, where CES CARES students assembled Clean and Cozy Bags and Meals For Kids bundles (February 2024)
  • Conshohocken Elementary School, where kindergarten and first-grade students created Brown Bag Snack Assortment (May 2022)
  • Colonial Middle School, where the National Junior Honor Society completed 110 Morning Munchie Bags (January 2025).
  • Plymouth Elementary School, where second-graders made 124 Chelsea’s Birthday Bundles (May 2022).
  • Ridge Park Elementary, where third-graders made Crafts for Fun Bags (November 2022).
  • Whitemarsh Elementary School, where kindergarten through third-graders assembled 50 Full Belly Bags (April 2024).

“We applaud the work of Colonial students and staff to make these gifts possible for those in need in our community. Through these hands-on service projects, your students are learning compassion, spreading kindness, inspiring others and giving back to those in need. We hope to continue this wonderful relationship with the schools in your district as we work together to bring service learning to the forefront of every academic year,” said Bridget Leary, founder of the The Giving Tree.

Students from across the district also assembled 550 sock rolls for the Giving Tree as part of the annual Day of Service events held in 2024 and 2025, but these projects were separate from the #MontcoServes campaign.
