Like many small rural towns, Rockwood and Berlin have come together for Friday night football games, joining not just their athletes and cheerleaders but also their marching band. This year, sixth graders from Rockwood who play instruments or participate in color guard were invited to experience firsthand what it’s like to be part of the marching band. During the event, each younger student was paired with an older, experienced “band buddy” who helped guide them through the evening. These veteran Mighty Mountaineers introduced the newcomers, who might join next year, to the world of marching band life. The sixth graders brought their instruments, played with the band in the stands, and got a taste of being part of this energetic community of musicians. It was a wonderful opportunity that offered them a preview of what exciting experiences await next year.
