Classes collaborate on literature project
Students in Mr. Micheal Paterno and Ms. Madelyn Myers’ ninth-grade English classes at the High School collaborated on a project centered around the main character of the novel Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson, a book they are reading in both classes. Students were tasked with taking an object they were randomly assigned and making it convey an emotion. The main character of the novel is tasked with the same project during her 9th-grade year as well. The first step was to create an original drawing. The students then had the freedom to create a painting, a poem, a song, or other creative media with this object. To conclude the lesson, students wrote a reflection about the main character and how her object symbolizes her emotions. Mr. Paterno and Ms. Myers hung the class projects to view and reflect on their peers.
