Bellefonte Special Olympics bring fun field day events
Bellefonte Area School District held its own version of the Special Olympics for field day on May 23 that allowed students to participate in a friendly competition that brought out teamwork and camaraderie among students from all grade levels.
Teacher Lisa Reitz said this ranks among her favorite school days and particularly enjoys seeing the camaraderie that happens among the three schools that have students who cheer each other on.
Adding that the students have been counting down the days since it was first organized in March, events included track and field, a softball throw, frisbee toss, jumping activity and a medal ceremony.
“We have huge support of the community and the district,” Reitz said. “We’re one big happy family (and) it warms my heart.”
