Four Meyersdale Middle School students were selected to perform in this year’s BandFest!

Four Meyersdale sixth-grade students were selected to attend the PMEA District 6 Elementary Honors Band Fest, held April 4, 2025. The event was hosted by the Conemaugh Township School District. Participants included Jazlyn Lecorn, Raydyn McNett, Waylon Decker and Fallon Lung.

The guest conductors for the event were Mrs. Jessica Leggett and the Percussion ensemble Directors were Mr. David Hock and Mr. Allen Bixel.

More than 160 sixth grade students were invited to participate in this event from 27 schools throughout the region, including: Altoona, Bedford, Berlin, Bishop Guilfolyle, Cambria Heights, Central Cambria, Central Spring Cove, Chestnut Ridge, Conemaugh Township, Conemaugh Valley, Everett, Ferndale, Forest Hills, Hollidaysburg, Johnstown Christian, Meyersdale, Northern Bedford, Northern Cambria, Penn Cambria, Portage, Richalnd, Rockwood, Shanksville, Somerset, Turkeyfoot, Tussey Mountain, Tyrone and Westmont Hilltop.

Students were provided the music in advance to begin their preparation with their respective music directors. Waylon Decker performed in the Trombone section; Jazlyn Lecorn performed with the Alto Saxophones; Raydyn McNett performed in the Flute section; and Fallon Lung performed with the Clarinets.

Katie Howard, MASD director of bands, said, “I’m very proud of these four students and how they represented the Meyersdale School District. They worked hard on their own preparing the music and came to their extra rehearsals well-prepared and ready to put the music together. They had a great time Friday and enjoyed the experience of playing in a very large ensemble and meeting new friends from other schools.”

The selection of music practiced and performed by the students included “Blackbeard,” by Randall Standridge; “The Bold Brigade,” by Carol Brittan Chambers; “Zombie Stomp,” by Rob Grice; “Attack of the Garden Gnomes,” by Timothy Loest; “A Peaceful Journey,” by Ryan Meeboer; and “Donut Factory,” by Heather Hoefle. The Percussion Ensemble performed “A Caveman Told Me,” edited by Corrine Stevens; and “Rails,” by David Hock.

Well done!
