Twelve Seneca Valley students had their artwork accepted into Slippery Rock University’s (SRU) 16th annual Regional High School Art Exhibition.

Awards juried by the SRU Art Department included Best of Show, four honorable mention awards, SRU Art Students’ Choice Award and the SRU Potters Guild Ceramics Award. Junior Jo Fernandez-Jenkins received an honorable mention for her sculptural wall hanging piece of a duck made from recycled materials.

Submitted pieces from students in Ms. Megan Bonistalli’s ceramic classes include seniors Molly O’Keefe, Jillian Weiss, Elise Ketler and Paige Baker. Submitted pieces from Mr. Jason Woolslare’s painting, drawing and senior career art classes include seniors Hannah Smith, Molly O’Keefe, Phebe Locante, Sam McNeely, Haley Yost and Sam Massimiani; juniors Miles Bornes and Jo Fernandez-Jenkins; and sophomore Carly Byrom.

“I am so proud of all the art students that I am fortunate to work with,” said Seneca Valley Senior High School Art teacher Jason Woolslare. “They work very hard on their art concepts and visual art projects. It is always awesome to see our students get recognition beyond the walls of SV!”

The exhibit featured artwork by students from 15 local high schools which culminated with a reception and award presentation on Thursday, November 16, at SRU’s Martha Gault Art Gallery. The reception was free and open to the public.
