15th Annual Yough STEAM Dream County Wide Science Fair
Yough Intermediate Middle School hosted its 15th annual Science Fair on February 27, 2020. The Science Fair is the brainchild of a Grade 6 teacher, Mr. Brian Grindle. The fair encompasses over 300 student exhibits in grades five through 8. Grade five students conduct and create bottle biographies of a chosen scientist while explaining their contributions via a flipgrid video. Grade six and seven students research and create projects based on a topic, follow the scientific method and present to parents, students, and staff. Grade eight students choose a topic tied into a STEAM related career for presentation.
The fair has over 65 vendors. Vendors include local businesses such as Westinghouse, Tenaska, and Chevron. Local Universities, Westmoreland Intermediate Unit, and community groups add to the list of interesting items for people to see. Not only do these items exist, the Pittsburgh Childrens Museum, the Natural History Museum, Greensburg Museum of Art, the Pa. Fish and Game Commission and other such related entities provide for an exciting evening. It is a wonderful opportunity to see how the students of the Yough Middle School, along with representatives from the Yough Elementary Schools and Yough Senior High School come together for an incredible evening that draws close to 2000 people.
