New STEM center to expand hands-on learning

Spring Grove Elementary School students will return this fall to a new STEM center designed to enhance hands-on learning and introduce students to science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts at an early age.

According to an article by CBS 21, the Spring Grove Area School District recently received a STEM Center equipment donation from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in partnership with the Way Foundation. Volunteers helped prepare the space by assembling furniture, organizing materials and setting up equipment before the start of the school year.

The STEM center includes technology, instructional materials, storage solutions and a 3D printer, along with staff training to support implementation. Spring Grove Elementary is the first of five STEM centers planned across the district this year.

District leaders say the new learning space will provide students with greater access to STEM opportunities while helping them develop practical skills and explore potential career interests. Superintendent Dr. Daphne Kirkpatrick noted that the center will encourage students to engage with technical concepts through hands-on experiences.
