Over 650 people joined together for the third annual SFC Ryan Gloyer Memorial 5K Run/Walk to honor the life and legacy of fallen hometown hero, Sgt. 1st Class Ryan A. Gloyer (SV ’00) who courageously made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Presented by Westinghouse and hosted by the Seneca Valley Foundation (SVF), this year’s event welcomed a record-breaking number of participants, families and community members who gathered in memory of Sgt. Gloyer’s work ethic, drive and resilience.

On a beautiful fall morning, the Memorial Run served as an opportunity to reflect on the attitudes and beliefs that made Sgt. Gloyer a role model for the entire Seneca Valley community. The record-setting proceeds from the race will support continued educational initiatives at Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS), that reflect Ryan’s commitment to fitness, inclusiveness, perseverance and kindness, ensuring his legacy continues to inspire others.

In the days leading up to the race, RGMS seventh and eighth graders gathered for their annual assembly to learn firsthand about the student and soldier for which their building was named.

During the assembly, Ryan’s father, brother and a retired Green Beret from the 10th Special Forces Group shared stories highlighting Ryan’s perseverance, selflessness, pursuit of excellence, aspirations to become a teacher, and the lasting impact he had on those around him. Following the presentation, students went back to their classrooms and made heartfelt cards for local veterans’ organizations.

Congratulations to SV junior Ian Wahl on his first-place finish!

We, again, wish to extend our sincere thanks to the SVF, all participants, sponsors, donors and the entire SV community for their support! To view the complete photo gallery, visit: http://www.svsd.net/our-district/seneca-valley-foundation/sfc-ryan-gloyer-memorial-run
