SV Hope Squad attends Mind Matters Conference
Seneca Valley Hope Squad members participated in the “Mind Matters Conference,” hosted by Pine-Richland’s Peer 2 Peer club. The event brought together students from local schools to hear from speakers and discuss initiatives aimed at promoting mental health and suicide prevention. Attendees also connected with representatives from Ellie Health, Charlie Health, Glade Run and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).
Dr. Demetrius Harrell from AFSP and Dr. Maura Paczan, Pine-Richland’s director of student services, shared valuable insights on mental health, warning signs of suicide risk and strategies to support at-risk students. They also emphasized the importance of protective factors in suicide prevention. Students engaged in leadership exercises, linking their learning to efforts in fostering mental wellness within their schools.
A key highlight of the conference was the opportunity for each school to showcase their mental health initiatives. Seneca Valley students presented on the Hope Squad program, emphasizing its crucial role in suicide prevention and student support.
