Sweet learning in action

Maple sugar lesson
Students at Haine Middle School (HMS) wrapped up their maple sugaring studies with a truly sweet experience — a maple sugaring festival!
Throughout the season, students immersed themselves in the sugaring process, from identifying maple trees in the fall to tapping them in January and collecting the sap for harvest. The festival brought it all full circle with a live maple sugaring demonstration, offering an up-close look at how raw sap transforms into rich, golden syrup.
And the best part? A delicious taste test of pure maple syrup made from sap collected by their very own classmates!
Organized by HMS sixth grade teacher Mr. Kenneth Cahall, this event is part of an exciting outdoor education initiative being piloted at Haine Elementary and Middle School — bringing learning to life in the great outdoors!
