This school year, for the first time ever, Waynesboro Area School District (WAMS) ran its very first student-written production! Killer Secret was written by our talented students to be shown on a Friday evening and Saturday Matinee show. The cast consisted of 55 hard-working student performers, stage crew and support! Below is the gripping introduction shared with the audience.

“Now, for those of you curious about what you’re about to witness, Killer Secret takes you into the heart of a seemingly perfect high school where a deadly secret lurks just beneath the surface. When a member of a close-knit group of friends is found dead under mysterious circumstances, the remaining friends are pulled into an investigation of their own. They quickly uncover a web of lies, betrayal and dark pasts. The only clues left at the crime scene — a coffee cup and a red lipstick smudge — seem ordinary, but could they hold the key to revealing the truth?

As the clock ticks, the tension builds, and the friends begin to realize they may be closer to the killer than they ever thought possible. But in a world where trust is broken and nothing is as it seems, the real question is: who can they trust, and will they solve the mystery before it’s too late?

Sit back, hold on tight and prepare for a rollercoaster of suspense and surprises as Killer Secret unfolds before your eyes!”

Needless to say, the performance was excellent and very well attended!

It was a huge accomplishment for middle school students to shoulder the responsibility of writing the script themselves and then putting it into action and motion. This added a tremendous amount of ownership, responsibility, collaboration and critical thinking as they navigated through all of the challenges of a self-produced play. It was an excellent experience for all involved and one we look forward to continuing!
