Pocono Mountain West students send dresses and hope to Africa
Pocono Mountain West High School Creative Fashion I classes are using their sewing skills to make a difference and bring hope to little girls in Africa. Through their Dresses for Africa initiative, the Creative Fashion I students, under the direction of Family Consumer Science teachers Mrs. Bridget Cook and Ms. Joanne Kutra, have made 65 dresses out of donated pillowcases so far this school year to send to Africa. The students take this community service project very seriously as they carefully cut out the patterns for the dresses, pin the material and sew each dress. They know the dresses are more than just a simple clothing item; the dresses represent the care and support the students are sending to the little girls to give them hope for a bright future.
West High School’s Creative Fashion I classes have created more than 713 dresses for Africa in the 12 years of this very worthwhile community service program.
