Asbury Elementary raises over $2,700 for charity

Asbury Elementary students proudly present a large check with the total amount fundraised by their school for ASLF during fall 2024.

Asbury Elementary in Millcreek Township School District has participated in fundraising for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for 15 years. This year, students and staff fundraised $2,788 for the foundation to support research for a cure to childhood cancer. The school began fundraising when Nicholas Pagano, a student at one of the district’s other elementary schools, was diagnosed with terminal childhood cancer.

The fundraising and awareness effort is an annual service learning project for students. Service learning teaches children about meaningful ways they can contribute to making a difference in the world and in their community. Pagano’s older sister, Alex Nervo, works for the district and has shared with the students her brother’s story as well as how much it means to their family that the students keep his memory alive through these efforts while helping others.
