Students shine at regional string festival
This month, 28 Seneca Valley students in grades 7-9 participated in the third annual Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 5 String Fest. This one-day string fest combines students from eight school districts across Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
This year, the junior high string fest was hosted at Beaver Area High School under the esteemed conductor Mr. Pierce Cook. Mr. Cook serves as a middle school orchestra director at Mt. Lebanon School District, as well as the conductor of several ensembles within the Three Rivers Young People Orchestra (TRYPO) organization.
Students ended the day with a wonderful culminating performance including repertoire by J.S. Bach, music from the “Hunger Games” and a special piece, “Honor and Glory,” paying tribute to our veterans. Ms. Miller, secondary orchestra director, assisted in hosting this event in conjunction with the Beaver Area School District music department.
