‘Banding’ together

Side-by-Side Event

Last month, nearly 160 instrumental students came together in the intermediate high school band room for the annual side-by-side event between the Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) seventh grade band and SV Wind Ensemble. What has become a great collaboration between the youngest instrumental students on the secondary campus and some of the oldest in the SV Band program, the event did not disappoint! Students worked together, performing pieces for each other as well as providing input and advice on ways to grow and improve in their playing.

Sophomore Ella King thought the seventh graders “did an amazing job at playing one of their concert pieces with lots of excitement and energy.”

Seventh grader Madeline Grove was “amazed how the Wind Ensemble clarinets could play so many notes so fast.”

The goal of the event is to begin fostering a connection between all students who are part of the SV Instrumental Band program across the secondary campus. RGMS instrumental directors Mr. Brian Croach and Ms. Sara Snyder intend to make this annual event the beginning of a series of activities between instrumental students in grades 7-12. Joining in the event were Mr. Varden Armstrong and Mr. Bob Babick, secondary Wind Ensemble directors.
