Supporting our community
In celebration of World Kindness Day, we want to take the opportunity to highlight thoughtful acts of generosity our Seneca Valley students engage in to support their community.
Recently, eighth graders on the Condor Team at Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) came together to make a difference in the community through their annual “Scare Hunger” food drive. In addition to students donating over 500 non-perishable items, Giant Eagle generously contributed more than 5,600 items, including canned chicken, helper meals, instant potatoes, pasta, boxed cereal, canned soup, peanut butter and jelly, canned beans, powdered milk, and more!
These donations were split between two local food pantries: the Evans City Food Cupboard and the Southwest Butler Food Cupboard – to provide direct support to families in need.
On Friday, November 8, students unloaded and organized the donations, and on Monday, November 11, student volunteers delivered them to the pantries, sharing hope and neighborly kindness.
“We are beyond grateful to Giant Eagle for their generous donation that will help to fill two area food banks,” said Ms. Jennifer Cenna, RGMS Social Studies teacher. “Beyond the impact of the substantial amount of food, our students will have the chance to experience service firsthand. This will be an amazing life lesson for our team.”
This collective effort was made possible by the dedication of SV students, staff and families, as well as the invaluable support of Giant Eagle, Corrigan Moving Systems, and SV’s Building and Grounds Department for transporting the donations.
