Scranton School Security Officer (SSO) Parris Price has taken community building to a new level. Since becoming an SSO at West Scranton Intermediate School (WSIS), SSO Price has been committed to fostering a sense of community and belonging with students at the Intermediate School, while actively contributing to the West Scranton community.

Since stepping into the role as SSO, Price has consistently taken the time to get to know the students and staff at WSIS. Within a year of him working in the building, he organized an after school program for students that gave them the opportunity to play and build friendships in a safe environment. He organized a free dance for students with a DJ and food completely donated, and last school year, he put together an end-of-year cookout for students where he helped grill all of the food for students.

This year, SSO Price had a bigger idea. He put on a haunted house and Halloween dance for the students at WSIS spanning two days. He got teacher and student volunteers to work the haunted house and accepted donations from anyone who attended. The event raised $1,200 that SSO Price intends to use to provide Thanksgiving dinners to needy families or anyone who would be spending the holiday alone.

SSO Price was recently recognized at the most recent Scranton school board meeting, thanking him for his continued efforts to support WSIS students and the surrounding community.
