Central York principal shares resources with schools during trip to Africa

Dr. Matthew Miller, principal of Roundtown Elementary School in the Central York School District, recently completed a mission trip to Africa where he partnered with the Liberian Public Education System. He served as ambassador of Central York Schools and York County, sharing his experiences and resources with schools in need.

During his trip, Dr. Miller donated materials, books and resources to the children and schools of Monrovia, Liberia. He also provided professional development opportunities to principals and teachers.

“The opportunity to travel abroad and represent my community and school district by distributing materials and resources to the public schools of Liberia, Africa, was a life-changing experience. As a long-time educator and principal, this experience afforded me the opportunity to model the importance of helping people of another country as well as learn about another culture so in turn, I can help educate others on the importance of helping those in need. I hope my experience inspires other educators as well as my students to discover a sense of empathy to help others as well as the value of experiencing another country and way of life,” said Dr. Miller regarding his trip.

Dr. Miller completed regular blog updates during his travels, which can be found on the district website. He visited alongside Palleh Toe, a district parent and community member who also happens to be a Liberian native.

Dr. Miller left for his trip just a few hours after Central York’s graduation ceremony on May 31, where he helped announce the names of graduating seniors. He looks forward to sharing his experiences with staff and students this upcoming school year while creating avenues to continue supporting the Liberian Public Education System.
