SV educator recognized by Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils

Mr. Stephens-Howling

When educators nurture leadership skills in students, they empower them to create positive change, foster collaboration and contribute to a thriving educational environment. Mr. LaVarr Stephens-Howling, Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) Acting Assistant Principal and student council advisor, was recently awarded the Region A Middle School Advisor of the year from the Pennsylvania Association of Student Councils (PASC).

Mr. Stephens-Howling has been serving as the RGMS Student Council Advisor for nine years and is being recognized for his outstanding service to RGMS and its students. As 2024 PASC Region A Middle School Advisor of the year, he was chosen from representatives in a 10-county area: Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Warren.

“It’s been an honor being the student council advisor at Ryan Gloyer Middle School for the past nine years,” said Stephens-Howling. “It’s truly amazing watching students join student council with little knowledge of the organization and finish the year as strong school leaders. One of my favorite things about being a middle school student council advisor is watching the same group of students become members of the senior high student council and host events such as Homecoming and Raiderthon! It is truly inspiring watching my students continue to dedicate their time and effort to improving their school community through student council.”

In addition to being awarded the Region A Middle School Advisor of the year, Mr. Stephens-Howling is now eligible and will be completing the application for the State-Level Advisor of the Year.
