Community Grown 2024

In an effort to strengthen connections with each of the nine communities within the Seneca Valley School District, Ryan Gloyer Middle School (RGMS) recently hosted its second annual “Community Grown” initiative, a school-wide community service project that allows students to give back to the communities that have given so much for their education. Seventh and eighth grade students spent the morning of Tuesday, May 21, volunteering at various townships and municipalities.

Municipal leaders collaborate with the RGMS administration to identify needs in their community. Once a need was determined, RGMS staff members and administrators worked with each of their 10 teams to plan a solution that would include community service. Seneca Valley serves the following municipalities: Cranberry, Forward, Jackson and Lancaster townships, and Callery, Evans City, Harmony, Seven Fields and Zelienople boroughs.

Some of the service projects included planting trees and shrubs, mulching, washing township/police vehicles, painting benches, installing bike racks and more. Students wrapped up their day around 12:30 p.m. with a group lunch followed by team building activities.
