School chorus travels to NYC to perform before the Rockette’s Christmas Spectacular
Three charter busses left small, rural Berlin, Pennsylvania, with 51 choral students and more than 100 family and friends from the community at 3:00 a.m. to head to the Big Apple! These choral students from Berlin Brothersvalley School District had the opportunity of a lifetime when they traveled to New York City on November 27 for a performance in one of the country’s most well known performance venues.
Students in grades 6-12 rehearsed for weeks with Director Katie Spiri in preparation for an unforgettable performance! The choir sang two a cappella selections before the 2:00 p.m. show featuring the Radio City Rockette’s Christmas Spectacular! The group performed two selections that were familiar, but with a twist. “Tidings of Comfort and Joy” by Audrey Snyder featured the traditional English Carol “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” with the addition of hand claps and body percussion. The second selection was an unaccompanied vocal jazz arrangement of “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Kirby Shaw.
The students then had the opportunity to stay and watch The Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes, and spent some time touring New York City with family and friends that also traveled to see the show.
