FBLA Carnation Sale
Buddha is credited with saying, “If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly our whole life would change.” The Meyersdale FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) may not have the ability to change the world, yet, they certainly shared the miracle of flowers and the love they represent with their annual Valentine’s Day Carnation Sale.
The halls of Meyersdale Area School District (MASD) were filled with the sight of blooms in red, yellow, white and pink, as members delivered more than 500 carnations throughout the district. Students in kindergarten through 12th grade were able to purchase flowers for their sweethearts, families and teachers.
Mrs. Chris Custer serves as the advisor for the FBLA and has been supervising this event for over 20 years. She said the students, faculty and staff are unwavering in their support of this annual event.
“I am so proud of the work our officers and members have done to keep this tradition alive here at MASD,” Custer explained. “The support shown for the carnation sale is amazing.”
Maci Moore serves as the FBLA President and said the fundraiser is a true example of “it’s better to give than receive.”
“We have had so much fun putting this together and then delivering the carnations. It really brightens people’s days and makes them smile,” she explained. “Every carnation was delivered and received with a smile and a warm heart.”
FBLA member, Zoe Hetz, echoed those sentiments and added, “The world needs more love.”
Organizing the annual carnation sale is a laborious process, requiring careful accounting and organizational skills. Members began working on this project before Christmas, investing their time, talent and skills to ensure another successful fundraiser.
