Community partnership benefits middle school students

Thanks to the generosity of Blaise Alexander Subaru, 15 Central Mountain Middle School teachers were selected to be recipients of the Subaru Adopt-A-Classroom Program which awarded each teacher $500 to use in their classrooms, plus each teacher was given a gift box full of school supplies for their classrooms. Each box featured a plethora of goodies, ranging from pens and colored pencils to dry erasers and markers. Teachers selected were: Christina Onuskanich, Michelle Hoy, Megan Heggenstaller, Renee Serafini, Sara Strouse, Barb Davis, Jess Whipple, Michelle Dickens, Allyson Weikel, Cheyenne Redcay, Ashley Crust, Patricia Alexander, Tim Gill, Melissa Becker and Michelle Watson. Teachers and their students gathered in the CMMS gymnasium Monday, September 12 to receive their awards.

Dave Kelley, general manager of Blaise Alexander Subaru in Montoursville, said it was Subaru’s way to try and make a difference. “We are giving back to the school system. We realize that in today’s world, the average teacher is spending a lot of their own money in giving back to the students. We want to try and make a difference and contribute a little, too.” The program believes every child deserves the tools and materials they need to learn and succeed in school.

Central Mt. Middle School Principal Dave Peters, said the teachers and students at CMMS were excited to receive the boxes. “We are really grateful to Blaise Alexander Subaru for including us in the special opportunity with Adopt-A-Classroom.”
