For Read Across America Day on March 2, Blair Mill Elementary School celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday by kicking off the One School, One Book program with the help of community members. Guest readers and organizations included Senator Maria Collett, State Representative Todd Stephens, Horsham Township Council, Horsham Township Police Department, Horsham Fire Department, Horsham Township Library, the Hatboro-Horsham School Board, as well as district officials including Superintendent Dr. Scott Eveslage and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Monica Taylor.

Community members read the first chapter of the One School, One Book selection The World According to Humphrey by Betty G. Birney to generate excitement for the rest of the month. Each Blair Mill family received a copy of the book to create a shared reading experience within the Blair Mill school community and encourage reading at home. Throughout the month of March, students will answer daily trivia questions, listen to their teachers and staff read aloud from the selected book and participate in the class writing journal.

Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association and guided by a committee of educators, Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading.
