Students examine the composted material

Mrs. Carol Tinsley, a science teacher at Trafford Middle School in Penn-Trafford School District, invited Ms. Reese from Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling to visit her seventh grade classes for a presentation on decomposers in an ecosystem and to introduce how decomposers help cycle matter in an ecosystem. The class also covered how using worms in vermicomposting can be done at home to help the environment. Mrs. Tinsley now has a vermicomposting bin on loan in her classroom, which will enable the students to observe the worms at work.
