Fifth grade places first in national math competition

Chestnutwold Elementary School’s fifth grade placed first in the nation in the Continental Math League competition, with student Kyle Kovolski winning the title of National Student Leader in the nation, scoring an impressive 30 out of 30 possible points! Principal Joel Dibartolomeo honored the fifth grade by presenting a certificate that will be framed and hung in the halls of Chestnutwold. Kovolski received a medal for his fabulous achievement.

Continental Math League is a math problem-solving national competition. There are five meets in fourth and fifth grade during which the students have 30 minutes to answer six problems. The students in second and third grade also compete in three meets. These incredibly adept problem-solving skills can be attributed to fabulous math teaching but also to the strengths taught across disciplines, as well as Chestnutwold’s establishment of an environment with rigor and a place where students feel comfortable taking risks.

Each of these students scored a perfect 6 out of 6 in one of the five meets in fifth grade, all making this championship possible.
