‘One School, One Book’ at Oley Valley

The Oley Valley Elementary School is embarking on a schoolwide book journey, “One School, One Book,” throughout the month of March. A program created by the Read to Them organization, One School, One Book, provides the opportunity for schools and families to share an authentic reading experience. For the second year, the school community is reading the same book for one month, both at home and in the classroom. Students were provided a copy of renowned author Cynthia Rylant’s, Gooseberry Park, by the Oley Valley Community Education Foundation. Each night families are reading aloud a chapter from the book, and classrooms are following up by exploring each chapter the next day in class.

In addition to reading the story together, the community is participating in various activities surrounding Gooseberry Park throughout the month. Classrooms each week are answering story questions during Trivia Tuesday, participating in book discussions, and completing weekly activities all while building a school mural of the book. Since the book shares a tale of lovable furry animals and their unique story of friendship, the third week of the book study is dedicated to collecting donations for the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
