Plum Sr. High presents fall monologues virtually
Plum Senior High School students launched “The Plum Fall Monologue Project,” an innovative way for them to share their artistic talents with a virtual teaching and coaching model, allowing for the exploration of relevant material. A performance centered on monologues, or dramatic pieces performed by a single actor, allows each actor to choose a piece that resonates with him or her. It allows for more flexibility in case/crew number than there would be with a traditional play or musical. The monologue format also works well for a remote rehearsal and performance model.
Director Nick Mitchell said that the event came out of a desire to provide an annual performance opportunity for theater students at the school and was well-received by students and viewers alike. According to an article on the district’s website, one of the main goals and benefits of the project is that it fulfills requests from colleges, theaters and commercial agencies for self-tapes rather than in-person auditions, and students had the opportunity to learn these self-taping skills.
