Students develop PRIDE

Northern Bedford County School District  |  Posted on

In the spring of 2017, the Northern Bedford County High School and Middle School began planning a framework for School-Wide Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (SWPBIS). The purpose of the framework is to develop school-wide expectations, give students positive support, and provide interventions concerning those expectations. The expectations for all students are to be Positive, Respectful, Involved, Dependable, and Excellent (PRIDE). Each year since, the PRIDE roll out includes an assembly, videos, and lessons in order for the students to learn about and
review the school-wide expectations. The data the district has gathered is very promising and continues to show a decreasing trend in office discipline referrals. Students were reintroduced to the PRIDE concepts with an assembly featuring “Minute to Win It” games. As an incentive, students receive acknowledgements for showing PRIDEful behavior, which can acknowledgements can be submitted to win prizes or used for classroom rewards. The 2019-20 Student PRIDE Team traveled to Juniata College to present and collaborate with other schools involved with SWPBIS.
